In December 2006, we were honored by being invited by Universal Ballet Company (Seoul) to perform several dances for their production of The Nutcracker at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. It was a great privilege for us as this is a renowned world class ballet company and a wonderful reunion for Marat Daukayev and the principals of the company. Mr. Daukayev has partnered with its General Director, Julia Moon, in several ballets, and is well acquainted with many of the dancers, teachers and coaches in the company.
Being able to rehearse and dance at the Shrine Auditorium with its huge stage and theatre (and undoubtedly L.A.’s best venue for ballet) was an extraordinary experience for our dancers. Leading roles were danced by Universal Ballet Company dancers while our students made up the party scene, soldiers, bats, and sheep (in a wonderful Pas de Trois/Merliton, with a shepherdess and her flock). The choreography was demanding but our students danced with technical ability and wonderful stage presence so that they received a terrific mention in the Los Angeles Times.
In October 2005, the Kirov Ballet was touring North America and arrived in Los Angeles to perform THE SLEEPING BEAUTY. Many of our students auditioned among dozens of dancers from the Southern California area, and were selected to participate in two dances with the Kirov Ballet at the beautiful Dorothy Chandler Pavillion. One dance was the Waltz scene, and the other was Tom Thumb. The wonder and awe of rehearsing and being backstage with the best ballet performers in the world was a thrilling experience in itself, but to dance onstage with such ballet stars as Diana Vishneva and Anton Korsikov was an unforgettable delight for our students. It was an outstanding week of gorgeous ballet and wonderful memories
