The MDSB Summer Intensive Program is designed to rapidly advance the serious student in technique and performance ability.  Class sizes are small and students receive individual attention and/or coaching at all levels.  The program is open to students of the school from ages 7 to 18 years old.  Applicants who are not students of the school are asked to take a placement class. (Please call the school for details.)

The program offers classes in those dance forms most essential to students preparing for a professional career in ballet.  The program runs for six weeks and culminates in an Open Class Showing.  Students may take less than the full six weeks, but must attend at least the last four weeks if they wish to dance in the Open Class Showing.

Kirov Academy Summer Session
Auditions for the Kirov Academy Summer Session in Washington, D.C. were held at Dance Arts Academy on January 19, 2008. After the auditions several of our students were invited to attend this summers program. The program is designed for serious students of ballet ages 10 through 18, and consists of four to six hour classes, six days a week. There are two sessions: Technique Intensive: June 15 - July 5, and Performance Intensive: July 6 - July 27. For more information visit their website: www.ubacademy.org.

Youth America Grand Prix 2008

Congratulations to all of our competitiors who performed with grace and skill during the 2008 Youth America Grand Prix competitition! All students danced beautifully and should be proud of their performances in their particular divisions. There were well over 200 entrants in this years competition.

Regina Montgomery was awarded First Place in the Junior Classical Division and Second Place in the Junior Contemporary Division. She will proceed onto the Finals in New York in April.

Students who plan to compete in next year's Youth America Grand Prix Competition are already beginning work on their variations. Please contact the office to enroll for Competition Class. Students dance two variations, one is a classical variation and the other is a contemporary piece.  Dancers are grouped according to age level: Seniors (15-19 yrs old), Juniors (12-14 yrs old), Pre-Competitive (9–11 yrs old)

Our Annual Nutcracker Performance

Throughout the year, our students work hard to acquire classical ballet technique. In performance, they have the chance to express their love of dance for a live audience. Sharing Nutcracker is an exceptional experience for participants and audience alike, performed by beginning students who are 3 yrs old up to our advanced dancers at 18 years old. This is a wonderful way to introduce your family to one of the most beloved classical ballets of all time.

The Marat Daukayev Ballet Theatre presented four performances of “The Nutcracker” on December 8th and 9th, at the Japan American Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. Marat danced Drosselmeyer in all performances and our guest artist, Evgueni Tourdies, danced the Prince.

We will post new photos from the 2007 Performance shortly. Please check back in later.
